Tea and Rye

Here's another weird one… Today, we were having some generic English Blend tea (for some reason, it's actually called Tai Fu: How very English!), and we decided to put a little bit of that Seagrams rye we had used for the hot-chocolate. Well, believe it or not, it actually ended up tasting like berries. The strangest thing in this is that this tea is fairly strong and stringent (with lots of Assam characteristics), and the rye is fairly oaky, and little else: so how could the blend taste like berries? No idea… In any case, it tasted slightly odd, but it was not at all unenjoyable, as the taste was reasonably light.

Real Hot-Chocolate

Here is a special recipe for special days, when chill is roaming the land, but the warmth of mirth thrives inside.

  • Boil some water in a small saucepan.
  • Add some hot-chocolate mix or cocoa powder according to the amount of water in the pot, and taste.
  • After a while, add some marshmallows, once again, according to quantity and taste.
  • Reduce the heat and stir gently until the marshmallows are dissolved.
  • Serve in large mugs and spike with some cheap whisky (that's the important part).

Your results may varry; but if you use some cheap rye whisky-- we used some of that Seagrams which comes in cute little plastic flasks-- you'll find that the oaken taste of the whisky simply blends and compounds that of the chocolate. Probably a great way to get Auntie Jane drunk without it ever coming to her knowledge.

Enjoy!

Tricky Sunday

Here's how to make some Baileys, if you feel like having some, but don't have or can't get any.

  • Take some soft ice-cream (let it melt if necessary). We used some ripple butterscotch ice-cream.
  • Sprinkle some chocolate powder (Nesley Quick) on top.
  • And add a reasonable measure of kahlua. We used some from a little bottle, the kind you get when buying something completely unrelated. (Most likely, any coffee/alcohol mix would do; use your imagination.)

And there you go: stir and enjoy!
